Start: Wherever you like but in this instance from the allotments car park

From the allotments car park walk along the lane to the main road A518. Turn right and then fork left alongside the Royal Oak pub into Wharf Road. Then take the first left turning into Cowley Lane.

Walk up the hill along Cowley Lane, soon leaving the houses behind. Continue along the lane for a few minutes before taking the first right towards Cowley.

Walk along this lane past some cottages and a farm until you reach the bridge over the Shropshire Union Canal. Cross the bridge without descending to the towpath, and take the first right turn into a lane. (Although there is no sign post this lane is shown on road maps as "Fan Lizard Lane").

Walk along Fan Lizard lane with hedges on either side of you, Ignore the first public footpath signs you will see after just a few yards, and continue to the end of the lane until it peters out. Here you will see a public footpath sign pointing diagonally right across a large field. Follow this route until you reach an indented field corner jutting towards you. Walk along the field edge with the hedge on your right. In the corner you may see a broken public footpath sign near to an old stile. Do not cross this stile, instead follow the field's edge keeping the hedge on your left until you reach another corner where the field opens out in front of you.

Walk straight across the middle of the field to reach the far side. In the far left corner of the field you will see a public footpath sign and a stile. Climb the stile and follow an overgrown (sometimes brambly) path with close hedges and farm fencing on either side, emerging close to a farm onto a lane. This is Quarry Lane.

Turn left along quarry lane passing some houses until you reach the Gnosall to Moreton & Outwoods lane. Turn right, crossing the canal bridge next to the Boat Inn, and continue back along Wharf Road, Station Road and the lane to the allotments car park to return to your starting point.
